How to Lose Water Weight Without Diuretic Medication
Ridding yourself of excess water weight can easily be accomplished without taking any diuretic medications. Diuretic medications can lead to dehydration quickly if not monitored closely. There are several steps you can take to naturally lose water weight.
Drink extra water. Not drinking water leads to water weight gain because the body attempts to protect itself from dehydration by retaining every bit of water it can. Drinking at least 64 ounces of water a day is important and when shedding water weight you should add a little extra to your daily total. Avoid caffeine and alcohol. While these both act as diuretics, they work too well and the body will protect itself against dehydration.
Eat more fruits and vegetables. The potassium found in many fruits and vegetables is a way to naturally lose water weight and to prevent further gain. Bananas are an especially helpful natural diuretic. Limit your use of salt or cut it out of your diet completely. By following a well balanced diet, your body will get the salt it needs naturally through foods.
Get some exercise. Even if the exercise comes in the form of walking, it will help. Exercise improves circulation and this in turn helps the body flush out water.
See your doctor if these methods don't relieve the water weight retention. If you are on medications such as birth control and steroids, these exacerbate water weight gain. Your doctor may be able to switch your medication. The situation may also be serious enough that you will have to take prescription diuretics. If medications are not the culprit, there may be an underlying medical reason that your doctor will need to diagnose.
