How to Make Ballet Slipper Cake

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

Ballet slippers
There are several ways to make a ballerina cake. You can shape the cake to look like a ballet dancer, decorate a plain flat sheet cake with ballet dancers or make ballet slippers to decorate the center of a cake. Decorating a cake with ballet slippers is a simple and elegant way to fit the ballerina theme. You can make the cake as small or as large as necessary to feed the amount of guests at your event. This cake is ideal for little girl birthday parties, ballet company events and as a birthday cake for a professional dancer.

Ingredients

2 round cakes, flavor of your choice

Vanilla butter cream icing

White fondant

Nonpareils

Pink fondant

Pastry bag with star and round decorating tips

Step 1

Place one layer of cake onto a cake serving platter. Frost the top with butter cream icing. Stack the other cake on top of the first and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Step 2

Roll out a 16 inch circle from white fondant to about one-eighth of an inch thick. Lay the fondant over the cake. Smooth the fondant over the top and sides of the cake. Trim any excess with a knife.

Step 3

Roll small pea-sized balls of leftover fondant. Squish the fondant flat and mold into a flower shape. Press a small nonpareil in the center of each flower. Brush some water onto the sides of the cake and press the flowers into place randomly around the sides of the cake.

Step 4

Mold two fist-sized loaves of pink fondant into a ballet slipper shape. Cut out the inside of the shoe with a sharp knife to make the shoes look realistic. Stack the shoes on top of each other and place in the center of the cake. Pipe on a small bow onto each shoe with white icing.

Step 5

Mold two fist-sized loaves of pink fondant into a ballet slipper shape. Cut out the inside of the shoe with a sharp knife to make the shoes look realistic. Stack the shoes on top of each other and place in the center of the cake. Pipe on a small bow onto each shoe with white icing.

Step 6

Use the star decorating tip to add a decorative edging around the bottom edge of the cake. Roll out one-inch thick and four-inch long strips from pink fondant and lay over the slippers to simulate ballet slipper ties. You can also add a fondant bow to the cake to complete the decorations.
