How to Make Beef Barley Soup
Winter is coming and the best comfort food for the cold weather is soup. You can get a ton of vitamins and your daily intake of vegetables eating soup. It's convenient because you have your meal all in one pot, you can make it ahead of time, soup is sometimes better the next day, and you can put it in a crock pot and your meal is ready when you come home from work. Add a salad or some good crusty bread, and you have a meal that is delicious and filling. There is nothing like the smell of a good soup filling the air in your home.
Things You Will Need
You will need a 5 quart pot and a spoon for stirring.
1. 1 pound beef cubes
2. 2 tablespoons oil
3. 1/2 cup chopped onion
4. 1 cup pearl barley
5. 1 carrot sliced
6. 1 stalk of celery cut into 1 inche slices
7. 1/2 cup turnip
8. 2 tablespoons parsley
9. 1 bay leaf
10. 1 tablespoon salt
11. 3 quarts of water
Step 1
In a large pot add the oil. Saute the onion and the beef cubes until the beef is browned. Add the barley and saute for 5 minutes stirring constantly. Add the water, salt, bay leaf, parsley, carrots, celery, and turnips. Bring the soup to a boil then reduce the heat, cover and simmer for 2 hours.This soup is incredibly easy to make and is delicious. It is even better the next day. Add it to your recipes you won't be sorry you did.
