How to Make Cheap International Calls

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |
International phone calls can be ridiculously expensive. If you have a loved one overseas, you might want to call them more often, but struggle with the expense. Here's how you can get around the cost, and make cheap international calls.

Option One - Use an Instant Messanger on your PC, with a microphone.

The sound quality isn't great, but you can't beat the price. First, you need to buy a cheap headset for your pc. These cost under $20 and can be bought at most computer stores, or online. Next, use a free instant messaging system that supports voice chat, such as AOL or Yahoo IM.

The person you are chatting with will need to do the same. Plug in your microphones, and start chatting to each other in IM. The only cost is your bandwidth, so you can talk as much as you like.

Option Two - Buy a phone card.

International phone cards are cheap, and can be bought at most gas stations. You will always get a better rate doing this then if you call directly with your regular telephone company. The only drawback is that the connection is not always as good, and you might get some disruption on the line. If this happens, it's better to hang up and call again, since you might get a better connection after one or two tries.

Option 3 - Make a reverse charge call.

Depending on who you are calling, it can be much cheaper to make a reverse charge call. This is particularly true if you live outside the US, and want to call an American. To do this, you need to call the operator. Be sure to check the charges first!
