Making up a cookie mix with all of the dry ingredients, and putting it in a clear jar, can be one of the most inexpensive and thoughtful gifts you can give. Who doesn't like cookies? Everyone does, especially when they are home-made and from the heart. These are a great gift to give on any occasion. They are easy to put together, and fun to make. You can personalize them however you want, and add special touches by decorating them or adding special ingredients. Follow these steps to make jar cookies for gifts.
What you will need:
* 1 quart clear glass jar. I used Ball brand.
* 1 1/4 cups of flour
* 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/2 cup brown sugar
* 1/3 cup white sugar
* Semi-sweet chocolate chips
* White chocolate chips
* Craft paper
Mix the flour with the baking soda and salt in a bowl. This will be your first layer in the jar.
Make sure your jar is clean and wiped out so that there are no smudges. Then add in the flour layer by either just spooning it in or using a kitchen funnel. Tap the jar once all of the flour mixture is in so that it is level in the jar. Then wipe the inside of the jar with a dry paper towel so that no flour residue is left covering the rest of the layers
Next, layer in the brown sugar. Be sure to pack this down well. It is easy to do with as spoon.
Then, layer in the white sugar and tap the jar to even that layer out.
Then add in a layer of the chocolate chips, followed by a layer of white chocolate chips, and then top off with more chocolate chips. If you are a fan of nuts, then you could use those in addition to the chocoate chips. Just be sure to fill the jar all the way to the top so that the ingredients are well packed and won't move around in the jar.
Now, you can get out your craft paper and cut it into a square to write the directions on. You can type out the directions or just write them by hand. They are: In a large bowl, mix together 3/4 cups softened butter, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon water, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla until fluffy. Then, add in the ingredients from the jare and stir well. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto an onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake 8-10 minutes at 375 degrees.
Attach the baking instructions to the jar with a ribbon and tie it into a bow at the top of the jar.
