Easy crispy homemade French fries

These easy crispy homemade French fries are unbelievably simple to make with no thermometer or store-bought deep fryer needed. Yukon Gold potatoes adds that rich potato flavor and the firmness needed for this recipe with a high, prolonged fry temperature.

Thing Youll Need:

  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 6 cups peanut oil
  • 3 tsp. salt
  • Large Dutch oven
  • Large slotted strainer

Step 1

Cut the bottoms and sides flat on each potato. Leave the skin on the remaining ends. Slice length-wise a quarter inch apart and then again to create long square pieces.

Step 2

Place potato slices in the Dutch oven.

Step 3

Pour cold cooking oil over the sliced potatoes covering them completely.

Step 4

Bring the temperature up over medium heat. Start timing when it reaches a rolling boil, let this fry, uncovered and unstirred for 15 minutes.

Step 5

The potatoes should be a golden brown and firm enough to stir without breaking apart. Scrape any from the bottom, stir fries gently, then continue boiling for another 5 to 10 minutes.

Step 6

Use a slotted strainer to place the finished crispy homemade French fries on paper towels to absorb the oil. Salt generously or use your favorite seasoning while fries are hot.

Step 7

Serve the easy crispy homemade French fries warm with several types of dips: malt vinegar, tartar sauce, ketsup or soy-ginger sauce, with your favorite burgers, coleslaw and beer.


Do not stir during the first 15 minutes of frying, they may break apart.
