How to Make Egg Rolls

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 2 8

This is an easy Egg Roll Recipe that you can make at home that tastes better than anything you can get out. It's a bit time consuming but well worth the effort and it compliments any Oriental food that you cook at home. Your family will be amazed at how good they are and will compliment your cooking prowess.

Things You Will Need

The equipment you will need is a deep fryer and a skillet. If you don't have a deep fryer a second skillet for deep fryer on the stove is fine. You will also need a metal slotted spoon.

1. 1 pound meat, can be chicken, pork, beef, or shrimp

Delicious Egg Rolls

2. 1 teaspoon garlic powder

3. 1 teaspoon onion powder

4. 1 tablespoon soy sauce

5. 1 bag cole slaw veggies

6. 1 package egg roll wraps

Step 1

Cut the meat of your choice into 1 inch cubes. Brown this meat using a sprinkle of oil. After the meat is browned take it out of the skillet to prevent over cooking. Add the cole slaw, garlic powder, onion powder, and soy sauce to the skillet and cook over a medium heat until the cole slaw cooks down. This will take from about 15 to 20 minutes. Add the meat back in after you have turned off the heat. Stir occasionally to help cool down the mixture until it's not steaming hot. You don't have to cool down all the way just a bit so you don't make the egg roll wraps gooey. Lay out an egg roll wrap and put about 1 tablespoon of the mixture in the middle of the egg roll wrap. You may use more than a tablespoon just so long as you can fold the egg roll wrap and seal it. Fold the egg roll wrap as shown on the package, and using some water on your finger seal your last fold. Heat up your deep fryer to 350 degrees or if you are using a skillet on the stove heat the oil for about 5 minutes on high heat then turn down to medium heat. If you are using the stove deep frying method take a piece of bread and drop it into the oil, if the bread starts to bubble right away your oil is ready. Place 2 or 3 egg rolls into the hot oil and deep fry till golden brown. The egg rolls like to stay on one side so with a metal slotted spoon turn the egg roll over to brown the other side. If the egg rolls turns back over you may have to hold it on the side that still needs to be browned. When the egg roll is done, place them on paper towels to drain. Dip your egg rolls in your favorite soy sauce or sweet and sour sauce. Enjoy.

As I said before this is a bit time consuming but they are outstanding egg rolls. You can also freeze them, keeping them seperate from each other by wrapping them in wax paper or putting them in sandwich bags. If you have them frozen allow them to thaw completely or when you deep fry them they will be golden on the outside and still cold on the inside. You can make these ahead of time and always have them in your freezer.

Tips & Warnings

Be careful around the hot oil.
