OilA skin toner is generally used after washing your face. A good toner can help cleanse the skin, and both remove and prevent blackheads and pimples. While using too much toner can dry out your skin, it is very helpful if you live in a busy city area where there's a lot of pollution.

Below is a simple recipe that is designed to be less harsh than many skin toners you'll find in the store. Even better, it is made with all natural ingredients that you can find in your local grocery store, health food store, or pharmacy.

Things You Will Need

A bowl or container, 1/2 cup Mineral Water, 4 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar, 2 tsp Witch Hazel, 4 drops Lavender Essential Oil, 4 drops Clary-sage Essential Oil

Step 1

In your bowl or container, add 4 ounces ( 1/2 a cup) of mineral or spring water. You can use regular tap water if that's all you have available, but for the best results you the water should be free from chemicals and other impurities.

Step 2

To the same container, add 4 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar. This is the most important ingredient! Apple cider vinegar is well known for correcting skin irritations like pimples, blackheads, and acne. In fact, apple cider vinegar (when watered down) is an excellent skin toner all by itself.

Step 3

Next, add 2 teaspoons of witch hazel. This can be harder to find, but most pharmacies carry it. Witch hazel helps to reduce redness and irritation on your skin. It has been used for centuries to help with skin problems, and is soothing and cooling.

Step 4

Then, add your essential oils. You can omit these if you don't have them, but they are recommended since they each have their own healing properties. They also smell really good.

Add 4 drops of lavender essential oil (which promotes healing and can sooth irritations), and 4 drops of Clary Sage essential oil (a natural astringent).

If you can't find these oils, you can replace them with lemongrass, lemon, or bergamot essential oil (but don't add more than 4 drops of any one oil).

Step 5

Once you've added everything, mix it well. If you save it for later, you should mix it again before using it.

You can splash this directly on your face (avoiding your eyes), or use it to moisten a cotton ball and then swab it over your skin. You don't need to rinse it off.

For best results, you will want to wash your face before use. Even better, give yourself a steam facial by holding your face over a bowl of steaming water. This will open your pores, allowing the toner to be more effective.

Tips & Warnings

When applying the toner, be careful to avoid getting it in your eyes.
