By Edited Jul 19, 2014 2 6

Five easy steps to homemade flavored water that tastes great and is healthy!

How to Make Flavored Water

The body is made up of 65% water and it's necessary to replenish what is lost daily from exercise, perspiration and normal body usage. Drinking enough daily is essential for optimal health. Water helps to maintain skin, hair, nails, digestion as well as removes toxins and hydrates all your cells, organs, bones and joints. Get your optimal health by drinking plenty of water daily.

I grew up with well water and back then it was pretty difficult if not impossible to drink enough of this healthy beverage without it tasting like sulfur and other minerals. There are some of you still that deal with well water and need alternate ways to improve the flavors. If you don't drink enough water because you don't like the taste of plain tap water, here's a great way to make it flavored that not only tastes great, but is healthy and will help you to add more to your daily diet and save money in the process.

One of the great benefits of drinking this flavored water is that no sugar is needed - avoid the extra calories and unwanted health risks associated with sugar drinks and try this instead!

Difficulty: Easy

Things You'll Need:

Tap/filtered water

Fresh fruit

Favorite drinking glass

Step 1

Selection of fresh fruit

Save money with flavored water

Choose your favorite juicy fruit. There is a wide variety of fruit that you can use such as oranges, lemons, limes, oranges, grapes, grapefruit, strawberries, pineapple or kiwi. One or two pieces of large fruit or 15-20 grapes or smaller fruit should suffice. The more fruit you use, the more flavorful your drink will be.

Step 2

Use a cutting board

Place the freshly washed fruit onto a cutting board. Carefully cut each piece of fruit into quarters. Use proper knife skills to avoid cutting yourself while cutting all the fruit. Assist children if they are helping you.

Step 3

Use your favorite pitcher

Choose your favorite pitcher. Begin squeezing the fresh fruit from each quartered piece into the pitcher. Use enough fruit to fill the bottom of the pitcher. This will ensure you get plenty of flavor in the water. Chill for at least one hour to allow the fruit to blend with the water for fuller flavor. Her's my favorite clear lightweight pitcher.

* Buy a filter for your kitchen faucet for purer and cleaner water that tastes great! You'll love the Culligan Advanced Filter Kit for a simple and fast way to filter any water today. It's NSF approved so if it's certified for commercial or industrial use, it's great for you too and over 1500 other customers agree with me too.

Step 4

Fill a glass of ice

Get your favorite glass, filled with ice cubes and pour a full glass of your own freshly made fruit flavored drink. The fresh fruit will flavor enough so that you will not need to add any sugar. Making your own with fresh fruit will surely make it easier to drink the recommended amount of water and save you money from buying bottled. It's better for the environment too without wasting plastic or glass bottles.

Step 5

Add a fresh garnish

Add a fresh garnish to your glass and enjoy. Try strawberry, kiwi, lemon, lime, orange, melon or berry.
* Use a water calculator to assist you in determining your personal intake need based on your level of fitness and weight.

 Tips & Warnings

  • Vary the fruit choices every time you make your own beverage so that you will enjoy drinking flavored water and get more in your diet.

  • Fresh fruit such as apples and pears will also work if you allow to chill longer to blend flavors. Also, try mixing several types of fruit or mint or add cucumber for variety!

  • Make your own ice cubes with some of your filtered flavored water for even more flavor.

  • A tablespoon of powdered drink mix is another way to get additional flavor at a low cost.
  • No sugar needed. It only adds unwanted calories and causes health problems so just use the flavoring of the fruit to get great tasting water that you and your family can drink all day.

Good tips! I like to make mine with watermelon put through a processor then strained. I add a bit of lime to punch up the flavor.

Very good tips. Making flavored water is much healthier than the mass produced ones. I like to use watermelon too.

Thanks for the article. I have been lately realizing the benefits of adding fruit to water by using lime juice or by just adding a touch of fruit juice (Cherry, Cranberry, etc.). After having a glass of this fruit enhanced water, I have caught myself saying that when the water tastes like this, there's no need for any other drink. That's a huge improvement from how I used to think about water. I will keep these tips in mind for the future... Thanks!

thanks for the tips on tastier water with fruit flavors. It never ceases to amaze me when out walking how many people you see with a bottle of water in their hands these days. You never saw that fourty years ago and I am sure we never took lots of drinks to picnics like we do nowdays.

Thanks everyone for your added tips to make flavored water. I agree that years ago we didn't drink water like so many of us do today and it's becoming more popular now as we strive for improved health by making this simple change to our drinking habits.

I like flavored water. The best way that I have found to make it is to use the pitchers that are made for fruit or ice tea.
