Five easy steps to homemade flavored water that tastes great and is healthy!

Pitcher of flavored water

The body is made up of 65% water and it's necessary to replenish what is lost daily from exercise, perspiration and normal body usage. Drinking enough water daily is essential for optimal health. Water helps to maintain skin, hair, nails, digestion as well as removes toxins and hydrates all your cells, organs, bones and joints. Get your optimal health by drinking plenty of water daily. If you don't drink enough water because you don't like the taste of plain tap water, here's a great way to make flavored water that not only tastes great, but is healthy and will help you to add more water to your daily diet and save money in the process.

Difficulty: Easy

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

    Pitcher

    Tap/filtered water

    Fresh fruit

    Favorite drinking glass

    Ice

    Step 1

Selection of fresh fruit

Use fresh fruit to make flavored water

Choose your favorite juicy fruit. There is a wide variety of fruit that you can use such as oranges, lemons, limes, oranges, grapes, grapefruit, strawberries, pineapple or kiwi. One or two pieces of large fruit or 15-20 grapes or smaller fruit should suffice. The more fruit you use, the more flavorful your water will be.

    Step 2

Use a cutting board

Place the freshly washed fruit onto a cutting board. Carefully cut each piece of fruit into quarters. Use proper knife skills to avoid cutting yourself while cutting all the fruit. Assist children if they are helping you to make flavored water.

    Step 3

Use your favorite pitcher

Choose your favorite water pitcher. Begin squeezing the fresh fruit from each quartered piece into the pitcher. Use enough fruit to fill the bottom of the pitcher. This will ensure you get plenty of flavor in the water. Chill for at least one hour to allow the fruit to blend with the water for fuller flavor.

* Buy a water filter for your kitchen faucet for purer and cleaner water that tastes great!

    Step 4

Fill a glass of ice

Get your favorite glass, filled with ice cubes and pour a full glass of your own freshly made fruit flavored water. The fresh fruit will flavor your water enough so that you will not need to add any sugar. Making your own flavored water with fresh fruit will surely make it easier to drink the recommended amount of water and save you money from buying bottled water. It's better for the environment too without wasting plastic or glass bottles.

    Step 5

Add a fresh fruit garnish

Add a fresh fruit garnish to your glass and enjoy.
* Use a water calculator to assist you in determining your personal intake need based on your level of fitness and weight.

Tips & Warnings

  • Vary the fruit choices every time you make your own beverage so that you will enjoy drinking flavored water and get more in your diet.

  • Fresh fruit such as apples and pears will also work if you allow to chill longer to blend flavors. Also, try mixing several types of fruit or mint or add cucumber for variety!

  • Make your own ice cubes with some of your filtered flavored water for even more flavor.

  • In case of cutting yourself, immediately hold pressure on the cut until bleeding stops, then apply band-aid. Clean knife, cutting board and surfaces thoroughly with warm water and soap before reusing it.

  • For more severe cuts, seek medical advice.

Good tips! I like to make mine with watermelon put through a processor then strained. I add a bit of lime to punch up the flavor.

Thanks for the article. I have been lately realizing the benefits of adding fruit to water by using lime juice or by just adding a touch of fruit juice (Cherry, Cranberry, etc.). After having a glass of this fruit enhanced water, I have caught myself saying that when the water tastes like this, there's no need for any other drink. That's a huge improvement from how I used to think about water. I will keep these tips in mind for the future... Thanks!

I like flavored water. The best way that I have found to make it is to use the pitchers that are made for fruit or ice tea.
