How to Make Hot Dog Buns or Hamburger Buns
Things You Will Need
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup butter
- 4 1/2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 1 package instant yeast
- 2 tbsp sugar
- Large mixing bowl
- 2 quart pan
- Cooking sheet
- Shortening
Step 1 Begin by preheating oven by turning it on to 400 degrees. Use a paper towel to spread shortening evenly on the cooking sheet for cooking your hot dog or hamburger buns on.
Step 2 In a small pan, thoroughly mix and heat milk, water and butter. Do not bring to a boil, but make sure it is hot.
Step 3 Mix together the flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Pour the heated milk, water and butter into the flour mix and then thoroughly mix in the egg.
Step 4 When you have thoroughly mixed the hot dog or hamburger bun dough, dump it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth. This can take about 10 minutes.
Step 5 For hamburger buns, divide dough into 12 balls and flatten slightly in your palm. Shape them into a hamburger bun. Put the dough on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise for about 30 minutes.
Step 6 For hot dug buns, shape the balls into hot dog bun shapes and round the edges off. Let these rise for about 25 minutes.
Step 7 Bake them in a preheated oven at 400 degrees for 12 minutes or until they are golden brown.
Step 8 Once cooled, slice the buns as needed or desired. Store any leftover hamburger buns or hot dog buns in plastic baggies to keep them fresh.
These hot dog and hamburger buns can be customized in any way that you want. Add sesame seeds, poppy seeds or onion flakes to your buns if you want. White flour can be replaced with wheat if you prefer for healthier buns. The possibilities are as endless as your imagination.
