Vegetarian Lentil Burger

Sometimes, something simple and tasty, just feels right. These vegetarian lentil burgers can really hit the spot for a quick, healthy meal. Fry them up in your favorite oil then freeze them or refrigerate for later.

This recipe is for four vegetarian lentil burgers--add to it--for a large group or party. The seasoning can be as you wish, there is lots of garlic in this one, my original legume burger recipe. Be creative, add pre-cooked, minced veggies to plump it up a bit and add to the flavor.

Step 1

Cook lentils and water on medium heat, add salt, pepper and garlic powder. It may take about 60 minutes to come to a dry consistency.

Step 2

Add crumbled or torn pieces of whole wheat bread.

Step 3

Mix in whole wheat flour and eggs, add water, as needed..

Step 4

Add your favorite condiments, sauces or pre-cooked vegetables. Mix well and taste test.

Step 5

Make appropriate sized patties. Bake at 350 degrees in well-oiled dish for 45 minutes. Another method is to fry them in oil on medium-low heat for 4 minutes on each side.

Step 6

Serve vegetarian lentil burgers with hamburger buns, pita or whole grain bread. Top with your favorite vegetables, sauces and cheese.
