My Favorite Chocolate Pound Cake Recipe
My family loves this chocolate homemade pound cake, and I enjoy making it for them. While a homemade pound cake is rich, so are other desserts. And many of the other desserts that come to mind require some type of calorie loaded frosting, topping or sauce.
If you have never made a pound cake from scratch, then making one may sound hard, but they really are quite simple to make. Just follow the directions carefully, use the exact ingredients listed, measure accurately and bake it in the size pan that is specified. Go ahead, get out the mixer, and make this yummy recipe for your family today.
Gather the ingredients to make a chocolate homemade pound cake:
2 sticks butter, softened
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3 cups granulated sugar
5 eggs, add one at a time
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup Hershey's Cocoa
1 1/4 cups milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Using your stand mixer, cream together the softened butter, the vegetable oil and the granulated sugar. If you don’t have a stand mixer, then a hand mixer can do the job, too.
Next, add the eggs, one at a time, and beat well after each addition.
Sift the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa together into a medium size bowl.
In a measuring cup, measure the milk, and add the vanilla to it. Stir to blend.
Add some of the flour mixture to the creamy butter mixture, alternating with the milk/vanilla mixture. Continue until all the flour mixture and all the milk mixture have been used. Beat until all the ingredients are well mixed.
Grease and flour a 10-inch bundt pan or a 10-inch tube pan, and spoon the batter into the pan. Use the bottom of a large spoon to smooth over the top of the batter.
Preheat the oven to 300-degrees, and bake for 1 ½ hours. Check to make sure it is done by sticking a toothpick in at the highest point, and if it comes out clean, then it is done.
Allow it to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, and then it can be removed from the pan.
NOTE: The easiest way to remove a cake from a tube pan is to place a plate on top of the pan, and holding the two together, turn them upside down. All you need to do, then, is to place your serving plate on the bottom of the cake, and once again, flip them over together. If you are using a bundt pan, then simply place your serving plate on top of the bundt pan, and turn them over together.
