Swagbucks is an excellent way for anyone to make some extra money doing simple tasks, most of which can be completed within a few seconds, or run in the background while you do other things. While this isn't a magic bullet to all your financial woes, it is something fun and rewarding to do on the side.
An Overview of Swagbucks
Basically, Swagbucks is a website where you can easily make a few bucks here and there. You can redeem the SB (the currency is also called Swagbucks so I'll abbreviate it as SB for ease of reading) for various denominations of many gift cards for various sites around the net. You can also, redeem it for other things, but we'll get into that later.
You earn the SB by completing the your daily "to-do list", using the search engine, watching videos, filling out surveys, playing games, and other miscellaneous offers. When you really get into the rhythm of the site, it becomes very easy to differentiate the good offers from the bad offers ("good" and "bad" as in how easily and quickly it can be completed).
Right now, in this very article, I will share all the tips and tricks I've learned throughout the month I've been on Swagbucks. Strap in!
Things To Do Everyday
When you join the website, you'll see that you have a to-do list in the left-hand column under your "Daily Goal" bar. You should do all three everyday. The first one is to have the toolbar installed. Easy if you actually do have the toolbar installed, which I highly recommend you doing, for several reasons:
1) You do get one SB everyday just for having it installed!
2) It makes it much easier to remember to use the search engine and automatically fills the search query with whatever you have highlighted.
3) It reminds you of how much SB you have (semi-useful, but pretty fun)
After the free SB from just having the toolbar installed, we move on to the daily poll. It's exactly what it sounds like. You answer the poll and get one SB. It shouldn't take more than a few seconds and it's pretty fun.
Under the poll, there is "NOSO". It looks strange, but it's really very simple. It stands for No Obligation Special Offer. A lot of these offers cost money and it's really just like being reimbursed fully or partially for buying something. Fortunately, that's not what they're referring to here. Everyday, you get a "NOSO Path" that you go through and at the end, you get two SB. I just skip through all of them quickly and take my SB, hehe.
After you complete your to-do list (1-2 minutes MAX, other wise you're doing it wrong :P), take a scan through the tiles in the center of the homepage with all the offers. You should see one that says "Today's Survey" and is worth 60 SB. Do it. Everyday. It's an excellent deal! Some days, you may not qualify or there may not be any surveys available, but when you do get a survey, it doesn't take very long at all and is worth $0.60!
This next thing really isn't a must, but I highly recommend that you pay attention to the "My Daily Goal" bar at the top of the left-hand column. If you reach it, then you get a few extra SB, paid out at the end of the month. If you consistently meet the goals, then you get even bigger bonuses! Here's a chart to show you the bonus payouts you'll get.
Using Swagbucks Search
When using the Swagbucks search engine, you'll randomly be awarded SB two to three times a day, depending on the use of the search engine. Like I said before, downloading the toolbar really helped remind me to use the search engine. Based on my experience, the amounts range from 3-15 SB per rewarded search. However, Fridays are Mega Swag Bucks Day. On MSBD, Swagbucks claims that you can win BIG SB denominations up to 1,000 SB! I haven't won big yet, but I still have my fingers crossed that I'll be lucky one MSBD and get a huge payout.
Watching videos is probably the easiest thing to do to earn SB on Swagbucks. On the computer, you can earn 3 SB per 10 videos, but if you have an iPhone, you can download the Swagbucks TV app which awards you 2 SB per 5 videos which is clearly the better deal. There are also several other advantages to using the app. When you watch videos on the computer, you have to constantly select the next video, but on the app, it auto scrolls! You can literally just leave it on the charger and play it all day long and rack up quite a few SB. If you need SB faster, just skip through all the videos after the ads play. I'm sure they won't mind, hehe. If you do decide to just leave the app going, be sure you have a strong internet connection. Otherwise, it'll stop to buffer and you'll have to manually restart the video.
Yes, you can play games to win SB! Granted, you don't earn very much and the games are of little to no actual value, but you can make quite a sum of SB if you can get really good at a game and enter tournaments for it. Also, if you have children, you could enlist them to help you play a few games in their off time.
Aside from the daily survey, you can also access more surveys by mousing over "Answer" and choosing "Surveys". I recommend that you fill out all of the profiles that are relevant to you so you are offered more surveys to qualify for. My advice to you is to try and qualify for these surveys as soon as they become available. These surveys fill up FAST.
You can find "Tasks" by mousing over "Answer" and selecting "Tasks". Basically, these are little electronic errands you can run. Some are worth your time, some aren't. Personally, I really don't like doing them. Too much work for too little reward. Plus, they don't even pay out until you reach 20 SB and some of them pay as little as 0.40 SB so it can take a while to build up to the payout. However, if you have the time and are willing to it, I'd say to have a go at it. I've discovered some worthy tasks in the past, but they really seem to cycle and my favorites aren't available currently. If you would like the most updated information on the best tasks, the best idea would just be to contact me through Swagbucks about it.
Swagbucks has its own "cash back" type service where you get a set amout of SB per dollar spent if you make the purchase through their referral link. I don't do a lot of shopping at the sites they offer so I haven't really taken advantage of it, but I do make it a point to check if they have the store I'm about to make the purchase at before I buy something. I wouldn't buy something specifically for the SB though.
Refer Your Friends!
I think that Swagbucks has a decent referral program. For every person you refer, they'll match that referral's earnings from searching through their search engine, up to 10,000 SB. 10,000 SB is worth $10, so I think that's pretty good. It does take quite a bit of time to earn any sum of SB through search though. It should be fine if your referrals remain active and use the search function often.
Other Miscellaneous Methods of Earning SB
On the Home Page, there are many tiles with various offers, few of which are really worthwhile. Here I'll tell you a few of my favorites and strategies to maximize your earnings from them.
1) Watch This Video In Its Entirety and Earn 2SB
Exactly as it sounds. When you see this, click it right away! As you remember from before, watching videos usually gives you 3SB per 10 videos. Here, it's 2 SB for 1 video. What a steal! Unfortunately, unlike the other videos, you can't leave the page or the video will pause. I recommend you start playing this and work on something else at the same time, checking in every so often to press the button for another video.
2) Entertain Yourself and Earn ___ Swag Bucks
This is a pretty good one, especially if you find it while in your inbox (found in the top right corner by your SB count). You will be asked to visit double the amount of pages as the reward SB. It's pretty easy, just click the first link and close it. When the check mark appears, click on the next link. You can maximize the benefits by doing several of these at once while going about your internet business.
3) Anything From Encrave
You can pretty use the same tips as highlighted above for these offers.
4) Enter Swag Codes
When I first started with the site, I had no idea what Swag Codes were and missed out on several days of them. Now you don't have to go through the same thing because I'll tell you what they are right here! Basically, Swag Codes are these special codes that Swagbucks releases several times per day. They expire after a few hours and are usually worth 2-6 SB when you enter them. According to the Swagbucks website, they release them on their toolbar, blog, Facebook page, and twitter feed, but I just follow a Twitter account that tweets every time a new Swag Code is released. I then log on and enter it right away.
As you can see, there are many different methods of earning SB. Just choose ones that match your style and go with it!
Redeeming Your SB
The Rewards Store
Most of the items in The Rewards Store are gift cards worth exactly the exchange rate of SB (100SB=$1). If you want to get one of these, I would just recommend that you wait until you have enough SB to redeem $10 in PayPal. Same amount, but you can use it anywhere you want.
You can also make donations to various charities 5SB at a time and plant a tree for 99SB. Every cent counts and if we all donate what we can every day or every week, we really can make a difference. I've already donated several dollars worth of SB and I plan on donating more to the charities I support.
In my opinion, the best gift card to get is the $5 Amazon Gift Card. It's an excellent choice if you shop at Amazon often for several reasons:
- It only costs 450SB so you're saving 50!
- When you follow the link from Swagbucks, you can get a few SB back per dollar spent
- There are tons of things to buy from Amazon!
- The five dollars really add up when you keep redeeming it
Swagstakes are really just like raffles with a little more swag. They can be very tempting with their large prizes and only cost a few SB to enter so why not? Well, the really big prizes with extremely low-cost are very popular and due to the amount of people entering, of course it'll be really hard to win. Here are some tips and tricks to increase your changes at winning in Swagstakes.
- When they send you a message or an email about a Swagstake, DO NOT enter it. This means that everyone else also knows about it and even more people will enter it, decreasing your chances further
- Don't enter a limited time Swagstake until right before it ends. Why tie up your funds sooner than later when you can use it for something else in the meantime? It doesn't affect your chances of winning so it's in your best interests to wait a bit.
- Only enter Swagstakes with prizes that you really want. Why make it harder for someone else to win the prize of their dreams when you don't really want it yourself? It's just basic etiquette.
Well, that's all fine and dandy, but I have one favorite Swagstake that I've won twice. I personally think that it is the best Swagstake on Swagbucks. It is under "limited entries" and is for $5 PayPal. Each entry is 80SB and there are only eight entries total. I've entered it three times (buying two entries for 155 SB) and won twice! The money was deposited into my PayPal exactly ten days later. I've been very satisfied with how this has worked out. Just be sure not to buy an entry when there is only one left as this will only give you a 1/8 chance of winning as opposed to 1/4 of a chance. Of course, this is all completely based on luck so don't write me if you never win :P
