The HP LaserJet 9000 PCL6 is a large laser printer that is built for offices and businesses. It can print a large volume of documents quickly. You should clean this printer whenever you change the print cartridge or if you notice that the quality is declining on your printouts. Cleaning the inside of the printer is necessary to keep it running smoothly for many years. If you neglect to clean your printer after changing the cartridge, you may notice ink spots or streaks on future printouts.
Never use water on the inside of your printer. It can damage electronics over time. If you must use a liquid, use rubbing alcohol on a cloth. It will evaporate quickly and provide superior cleanup.
Toner ink stains clothing very easily. It is best if you wear old clothes while you are cleaning your printer. If you do get toner on your clothes, wash them immediately in cold water with detergent. Do not use hot water - this will set the stain and make it impossible to remove later.
Power off the printer and unplug any cables.
Dampen a clean cloth with water and wipe the outside of the printer to remove dust, grease and debris.
Open the printer cover by pulling it out toward you. Look for a small green latch and push it down to release the print cartridge.
Pull the print cartridge toward you using both hands. Set it aside on a flat surface lined with paper towels.
Wipe down the inside of the printer with a dry, microfiber cloth. Wipe down the paper rollers, any visible toner and the area where you just removed the print cartridge.
Set the print cartridge back in its holder, or replace it with a fresh cartridge.
Push the cartridge back inside the printer and pull the green lever back up to lock it in place.
Close the printer door, connect the cables and power it back on.
