When working with Google Adsense to make money online, it's important to pick good keywords so you earn the most money per click on an Adsense ad.

What is a keyword? A keyword is a central word or phrase around which your content or article is based. For instance, if you pick the keyword "Linux" your article needs to be about Linux and things pertaining to it.

But how can you choose the right keywords for your content so that your content is both interesting and profitable?

You need to do a bit of research into your topic.

There are two great tools that I LOVE for choosing the right words.

The first is Wordtracker's free keyword suggestion tool.

Wordtracker is a paid search engine optimization service for analyzing competitors' websites. However, for our purposes, the free keyword suggestion tool is perfect. All you have to do is enter a starting word or phrase, and the site will suggest up to 100 additional keywords you could use. Make sure you pick one that has a ranking of 30 or higher. Keywords at 30 and up should perform pretty well for traffic.

The second comes directly from Google: The Adwords Keyword Tool

Website: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

This handy little tool is actually designed for Google Adwords users to figure out how well a specific keyword will perform in an ad campaign. But, you can use this tool too.

Start by typing in a word or phrase that you want to base your article on.

Then click Get Keyword Ideas.

Then make sure the average Cost Per Click (CPC) is shown by using the "Choose Columns to Display" dropdown menu.

Show Estimated CPC

By looking at the average Cost Per Click - what an advertiser PAYS to use that keyword in an ad - we can figure out how much you will EARN per click. The more an advertiser has to spend, the more money you will earn. So pick keywords with a decent CPC.

The Search Volume columns show the average number of times a keyword is searched for using the Google search engine. More searches means the topic is more popular. But be careful to watch the Advertiser Competition too. Too much competition will make it difficult for you to get your article / content on ranked well in Google or other search engines.

When making your final decision, pick a keyword with....

- Medium amount of Advertiser Competition - Too much competition will make things difficult
- Good Cost Per Click (CPC) - These will earn you more money.
- Large search volume (popular topics) - Popular topics will get more traffic

These keywords will be the most likely to earn you the most money online.
