How to Pick The Right Car Seat Fabric

By Edited Sep 12, 2015 0 0

The car seat fabric is very important – if you want a car that looks flawless for a long period of time, you have to pay attention to the quality of the fabric. Of course, it’s always possible to get some covers, but, as you well know, covers don’t look as good as the original padding of your car’s seats. And, if you will sell your car at a certain point, the quality of the fabric will make a huge difference for the price you will be getting. A good quality car seat fabric needs to be thick, dense and firm. A silky, shiny surface is stain resistant, while a textured surface makes the seats look like new for a longer period of time. If the seats from your car look worn off and tired, it’s the moment to do something about it. Slip-on car seat covers don’t fit perfectly the seats. A better, more permanent solution is to have some covers custom-made or even to go to a good car repairs shop, to have a specialist install the new car seat fabric directly on your seats.

Car Seat Fabric Repair Kit

If the car seat fabric from your car looks pretty good, but an accident, such as a cigarette burn, occurred, you don’t have to invest money in brand new covers. You can simply get a car seat fabric repair kit. Such a kit contains fabric repair compounds in assorted colors, to match popular colors and textures. With the help of the air dry adhesive, screen applicator and the application spatula, you’ll be able to repair the damaged area. Most repair kits also contain an instruction card with color matching chart, so you will be able to visualize how you can fix the fabric as well as possible. With only a small investment – around $10 – you will be able to repair the fabric.

Car Seat Fabric Dye

If you are planning to cover your car seats with a new fabric, make sure you get all the necessary details on the car seat fabric dye. Ask the manufacturer about the dye it was used for that fabric and do a little research on the Internet about the qualities of the dye. Of course, natural dye, obtained from plants, is the best. However, it will be a little hard for you to find car seat fabric painted with natural dye. Artificial dye is good too, just make sure it’s not the kind of dye that contains a lot of dangerous substances and can cause allergies. As a general rule, fabrics that are a little mire expensive are manufactured by using good quality dye. So you really shouldn’t buy something very cheap. The color from the fabric won’t last long or it might even get on your clothes, destroying them.

There are lots of car seat fabric suppliers and manufacturers. Before buying a certain type of fabric, make sure you shop around a little, to find the best value for your money. Many types of fabrics are suitable to cover the seats from your car: velour, nylon, cotton, saddle blanket and so on. What you choose is entirely up to you and your tastes. However, you need to consider the fact that, during summer, your skin will get in direct contact with the fabric, so it needs to be something soft, comfy and non-allergenic. The color is another important issue. Even if you love light, pale colors, you should go with a darker one for your car. You don’t want every little stain to be visible on the seats of your car. So, skip on white, cream, light yellow or pale grays. Stronger shades and combinations of colors – blue, red, green, brown or black  - will make your car look like new for a long time.

Car Seat Fabric Protection

If you just bought a new car or you changed the fabric form your car seats, you certainly want to keep that new car look for as long as possible. You can do that with the help of several treatments, which make the fabric stain resistant and color resistant. Some of the fabrics come impregnated with the treatments from the manufacturer. If that’s not the case, you can simply buy the treatments to provide extra protection for the interior of your car. Installing sun shades will keep the color of the fabric fresh for a longer period of time.
