How to Pick the Best Phone Plan for Your Family

By Edited May 15, 2015 0 0

Mobile phones have taken over and even children are dependent on them. People rely on mobile phones to keep in touch with their family. Verizon Wireless and AT&T Wireless offer some great family plans to help you stay connected without destroying your budget. When you are deciding on a family phone plan, there are some things you should consider.

Will You Be Using a Land Line?

If the cell phone is not going to be your only means of communication and you plan to keep a land line in your home, then you can choose a smaller package. You can have a set amount of minutes that are available to you each month, and they can be split up between the phones that are on your plan.

Family to Family Calling

When looking at family plans, you want to ensure that you will not be charged when calling other phones on the plan. You can have a free family calling circle that allows you to make calls to each other without using your monthly allotted minutes.

Free Nights and Weekends

Many plans will have a free nights and weekends package that allows you to make calls to anyone during those times and not be charged from your minutes on your plan. This is a great feature that allows you to save some money by getting a smaller package if you anticipate the majority of your calling will be done during the free times.

Unlimited Plans

If you are not using a land line and your mobile phone will be your only means of communication, you might consider getting an unlimited plan. With the unlimited plans, you are able to talk all you want, to whoever, whenever and there is never an extra charge. You can bundle these plans with Internet usage, picture mail, texting and more to ensure that you get unlimited access to every feature that your phone supports or that you think you will use.

Texting

If you are on an unlimited plan, then your texting is covered (if not, you better make sure). Kids love to text and if you don't have an unlimited texting plan, you could be in shock when you see your overage charges. You can find plans that offer a limited amount of texting and even though it seems like a lot, it is not. You would be surprised at how fast your kids can use up 10,000 texts. If you have kids and are looking for a family phone plan that supports texting, unlimited is the only way to go.

Media

Most phones these days support media downloads such as music, images and even video. If your phone supports it, you can be sure that you will use it so make sure it is included in your plans price. Unlimited media may be the best route if you have kids and their phones support media downloads.
