All you need to do to make it a success is learn how to plan a party for St. Patrick's Day.

Send out invites. Make a list of family and friends you want to have at your St. Patrick's Day party. Create invitations for your event on your computer, or purchase themed invitations from a local party supply store. Provide the details of the party on the invitation including your address, the day of the party, the time of the party and any requests you have of guests. For example, you can require all guests to wear something green to enter the party or ask everyone to bring some type of food if you want to keep the cost of the party minimal. Once you have the invitations ready to go, address them to your friends and send them out.

Purchase drinks. Alcoholic beverages are a staple of St. Patrick's Day, and your guests will expect them. Visit your local liquor store to get enough beer, spirits or wine to cover your guests. Consider purchasing some green food dye as well to add to the beverages. This gives the drinks a festive appearance. Remember to have non-alcoholic drinks as well for guests who are driving, pregnant, giving up alcohol for lent or abstaining from alcohol for other reasons.

Buy food. Visit your local supermarket to pick up food for your guests to munch on and eat during your St. Patrick's Day party. Find foods that celebrate the holiday such as cookies and cakes decorated with four leaf clovers, leprechauns and other St. Patrick's Day graphics. Get chips, vegetables and dip. Take into consideration the dietary needs of all the guests who will be at your party, and ensure you have food to cater to their special needs, such as vegan or diabetic, and any allergies they might have.

Pick up décor. Make a trip to the party supply store to pick up décor and paper products for your St. Patrick's Day party. Getting paper napkins, cups, plates and silverware greatly reduces the number of dishes you have to do after your guests have left. Purchase decorations and décor at the party supply store as well to create a festive environment in your home. Consider table centerpieces, green streamers, St. Patrick's Day hats, posters and other supplies.

Create the entertainment. Guests at your party need some type of entertainment throughout the duration of your party. While socializing, eating and drinking occupy some of this time, there are a number of games and entertainment options you can use during the rest of the time. Karaoke is a popular entertainment option, especially on St. Patrick's Day when alcohol intake lowers inhibitions and makes people more likely to sing karaoke. Drinking games are also a popular option for St. Patrick's Day. Just make sure you have enough drinks to cover this additional consumption.
