Bejeweled 2 is one of a series of skill games developed by PopCap games. The skill game version differs from the downloadable game and I will explain the rules of the skill game here.

The object of the game is to create 3 or more matching coloured gems in a horizontal or vertical row by switching a non-matching gem with a matching gem. It is played on a board with 64 total gems in an 8x8 grid. There are seven different colours of gems on the board.

Where the skill game differs from the downloadable game is while the downloadable version goes on for as long as you are able to make moves on the board, the skill version game is set to a certain time, usually 3 or 4 minutes, while the Blitz version of the game is limited to 1 minute. If there are no moves available on the board while you still have time remaining, the board resets itself instead of ending the game. This makes the strategy of the game very different.

Bejeweled 2 has some features beyond the original game that allow you to get a higher score and clear more jewels at once.

If you create a line of four jewels instead if just three, or two 3-jewel combinations in a T or L shape, you get a power gem in the place of the gem you switched as opposed to it clearing with the others. The power gem retains its same colour. If you match this power gem in a three-or more combo, it will detonate and eliminate the eight gems that are surrounding it.

If you create a line of five jewels in a row, you get a hyper cube in place of the gem you switched as opposed to it clearing with the others. The hyper cube is colourless and can be switched with any gem to remove all the gems of the same colour. Use the hyper cube when you are low on moves and can switch it with a gem that appears a lot on the board. That will help clear a lot of gems to potentially make more moves as well as get a lot of points.

When you reach a certain amount of points, you graduate to the next level of the game where point values move up by a certain multiple. The intervals in which you can graduate to the next level also increase by a corresponding amount. If you are struggling to find a move you can always click the "Hint" button but that will cost you some points so use is only when you absolutely need to.
