It is that time of year again, Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner. This means that many of us will have family and friends staying with us over the holidays. Having house guests can be very stressful for some people, follow these tips to reduce holiday house guest stress.

Prepare your guest bedroom

Your guests will most likely be very tired after holiday traveling, so create a comfortable space that they can relax. Wash all of your guest room bedding, so when your guests go to sleep they are nice and fresh. Clean and organize your guest room. Many of us use our guest room for more than one purpose. For example, if you use your guest room as a craft room the rest of the year, take a few minutes and make sure everything is put away nicely. After you have organized the room you can clean it. You don’t have to go crazy and clean every square inch, as long as you dust and vacuum you should be fine. Doing a more thorough cleaning after your guests leave is more important than before they arrive, because the room will be dirtier after they leave.

Offer little extras

Leaving a basket of basic toiletries is a nice touch and is very appreciated by guests. Some items that you may consider putting in the basket would be: shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, floss, razors, mouthwash, and any other items that you can think of. Not only will your guests appreciate this basket, it will also avoid midnight drug store runs to pick up forgotten items.

Prepare your pets

Not everyone is an animal person. You may need to move small animals to a different room in the house. If you have animals that walk freely around the house like a dog or cat, find a room or area in our house that you can block off to keep them away from guests that are allergic or do not like animals. Also, if you have a cat, and keep the litter box near the guest bedroom or bathroom, try to find a different spot, so your guests  don’t have to smell the orders. Remember to introduce your animals to these new locations several days before your guests arrive, this will reduce stress for your pets and you!

Don’t over schedule

One of the worst mistakes that people make when having holiday house guests is over scheduling. Your guest are coming to see you, not every attraction in your town. Seeing a few attractions is okay, but remember to leave plenty of time to bond and relax at home.

Wifi password

Now days it seems like guests travel with several electronics that connect to the internet. Write down your wifi password and leave it in the guest room, this way your guests do not have to feel awkward about asking you for it.
