How to Prevent Asbestos Exposure During Remodeling
There are steps you can take to prevent asbestos exposure during remodeling of your older home. The asbestos removal company will take care of most of it but there are things you can also do.
Things You Will Need
plastic
duct tape
tarps
Remove carpeting or flooring before the demolition stage begins. Even though asbestos removal crews will cover and seal off the floors, you can further prevent asbestos exposure by ensuring an easily cleaned surface for their clean up stage. It is a wise idea to replace any flooring in rooms where the cancer causing nuisance has been released.
Cover all air vents in the home with thick plastic and seal with duct tape. While the work crews do their part in containing the asbestos properly, you can further minimize asbestos exposure risk. If by chance some were to find its way into the vent, this would minimize the area needing to be cleaned by keeping it within the duct work.
Close all doors in the home and seal them with thick plastic and duct tape.
Rent a hotel room or arrange to stay with family or friends. Don't go near the home while the crew is working. You can even go so far as to have your mail held at the post office for pickup. The removal crews know their jobs well and will make sure to prevent asbestos exposure from being a concern to you once you are back in the home.
