How to Prevent Dry Skin

How to Prevent Dry Skin

Millions of people are troubled by dry skin that appears as flaking, spotty patches, peeling skin, lines and wrinkles as well as roughness and lack of bounce otherwise known as elasticity and skin turgor or skin tightening.

There are many causes of dry skin as well as an equal number of ways to prevent dry skin that are easy to do with an established routine to nourish and hydrate skin so that it not only looks better but, mostly so that your skin will feel better.

Causes of Dry Skin

The Sun

The sun is the number one cause of dry skin and the number one cause of premature aging showing lines and wrinkles.

Lack of Hydration

Hydration to the skin is important since it's the largest organ of the body and our bodies are made up mostly of water. Lack of proper hydration will lead to dry skin not only on the face but, all over the body.

Improper Nutrition

Food is an important part of skincare and adding foods to our bodies that does not contain all the essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals we need the results show up in dry skin.

Lack of Exercise

Exercise is not only important to keep our muscles toned but also helps to keep our circulation flowing properly enough with adequate oxygen to give us glowing skin.

Medications

Medications often contain a side effect of causing dry skin. Check with your medical physician to determine if any other substitute can be prescribed that may not cause dry skin. Never stop taking medications suddenly as that could cause larger problems than dry skin – speak with your doctor first.

Chemicals

There are many harmful chemicals in personal care products that are used on the face and body daily as well as many of the foods that we eat and all are contributing to the problems of dry skin. Check the ingredients on the labels of all products you buy and eat and do some research to find out what those ingredients are. Switch to safer, natural products made of fruit extracts or vegetable extracts with natural vitamins instead that will hydrate instead of drying the skin.

Many brands of makeup can also cause dry and irritated skin. Search for the best ingredients in makeup and always remove makeup at the end of the day to keep the pores cleaned and ready for moisturizer.

Ways to Prevent Dry Skin

If you want to prevent dry skin there are several things that you can and should do daily for smooth, clear, moist, dewy, glowing and radiant skin. There isn't just one thing to do for a healthy body or healthy skin rather it's a combination of preventive items that will help dry skin.

Protection from The Sun:

Stay out of the sun as much as possible and always wear a moisturizer with sunscreen of spf 30 or a foundation with spf. Reapply sunscreen every hour of being in the sun to maintain optimal protection and use an amount of one full ounce with each application.

Wear a hat and sunglasses when in the sun. Even on hazy days and winter days, the suns rays can damage skin and cause dryness.

Wear protective clothing during time in the sun.

Hydrate the Skin:

Proper hydration of the skin includes drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water daily. This can include beverages made with water such as tea and coffee as long as there is a balance of fluids.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. The skin needs moisture added daily and preferably in the morning and evening for the best results. Choose a moisturizer suited for dry or aging skin that is non greasy without chemicals that dry out the skin. Apply moisturizer to the face as well as the body.

Nutrition to prevent dry skin

Add omega 3 fatty acids to the diet with salmon, mackerel, sardines several times a week or take a supplement.

Cook with extra virgin olive oil when sautéing foods and also add it to salads and drizzle over fresh vegetables to add a healthy oil to the diet that is good for the skin.

Eat fresh fruits and fresh vegetables daily with each meal to obtain healthy vitamins and minerals and water that the skin needs to stay hydrated properly.

Exercise

Exercise increases the circulation and helps to move oxygen to the whole body and the skin and all organs to keep them healthy, firm and tight.

Adding at least 20 minutes of exercise per day can greatly reduce dry skin, problem skin and improve the bounce or elasticity of skin as well as removes toxins that can cause dry, flaking skin.

Exercise helps to remove toxins from the skin and all other organs by increasing oxygen flow.

Shower after strenuous exercise to keep the skin clean and to reduce toxins.

Proper Skincare Regime

Water won't clean or protect the skin adequately enough and many bar soaps have ingredients in them that do not moisturize but, dry the skin out even more. Avoid bar soaps if dry skin is a problem.

Choose a cleanser meant for dry skin that will add the nutritional proteins and moisture that dry skin needs without ingredients that inherently dry skin.

Include an eye product meant to reduce lines and wrinkles around the thin and delicate eye tissue. Use an eye cream or gel every morning and evening to reduce dry eyes.

A moisturizer specifically made for dry skin should be used daily in the morning and evening to provide the extra hydration that dry skin is lacking.

Make the time to take care of dry skin so that you can reduce the flakiness, patches, redness and irritation that cause itching, discomfort and don't help you to look or feel your best.

Chemical Free

Eliminate as many chemicals from personal care products and life as possible. Some to avoid include sulfates, mineral oil, alcohol, formaldehyde, artificial fragrances and animal by-products. Become a responsible consumer and do research on what you are using and putting on and in your body because everything you put on your skin and in your body is absorbed by the bloodstream.

Anti Aging products to prevent dry skin

Add anti aging products that are known to moisturize the deeper layers of skin and help to tone, tighten and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Use anti aging products before moisturizing every morning and every evening for the best results.

Unfortunately, there isn't just one thing to do or pay attention to to prevent dry skin but, this daily and weekly regime will help you to obtain the smooth, soft, clear, dewy and radiant skin that you want and deserve!
