It doesn't matter if you are trying to avoid the Swine Flu or just the plain old flu, it seems that the flu bug is all around us and for the most of us, we have developed a pretty good immune system. But for the rest of us we are on the flu's radar. Being prepared for this years flu will help keep your family safe from getting sick.

Things You Will Need

* Soap * Anti-bacterial gel

Step 1

Always be aware of your surroundings, where you work and where you live. Does someone there seem sick? Being aware is very important to keeping yourself from getting the flu this season. Avoiding places that have a heavy amount of people traffic sometimes can not be avoided, but you can arm yourself with anti-bacterial gel.

Step 2

Do not use public phones or phones that a lot of others are using, especially at work. If you have to use a public phone, wipe it first with anti-bacterial wipes (wipes are available at any supermarket, drug store and discount department stores). This step should protect you from any germs that have been left behind by the previous user. This also applies to any public devices such as computers.

Step 3

Door handles are a catch all for germs also. This is where most people pick up germs. While wiping the door knob before you use it is not the first thing on your mind, you can protect yourself by using anti-bacterial gel as often as possible. Germs are passed from your hands to your eyes, nose and mouth.

Step 4

: Handles on shopping carts are also a place where germs tend to hang out and get spread from one person to another. Wipe the handles of the shopping cart before you touch it. Most stores provide anti-bacterial wipes for this purpose, especially during flu season.

Tips & Warnings

If you think you may have the flu, seeking medical attention within the first 48 hours may help shorten the duration of the flu. Also, if you have the flu virus, stay home to prevent spreading the flu virus to others.
