Health insurance is very important to have and without it you could end up owing thousands in medical bills. While it is a necessity, many have trouble finding cheap health insurance that they can afford but there is cheap health insurance out there and you should do what you can to work it into your monthly bills.

Step 1

See if you still qualify for your parentsâ € ™ health insurance if you are a college student. This is a great way to get coverage but if it isnâ € ™t available, many colleges also offer low cost plans for students who need cheap health insurance.

Step 2

Shop around for cheap health insurance online and in your town. There are several sites that will help you compare insurance rates. Call your auto insurer and see if you can get a deal by combining all of your insurance needs with one company.

Step 3

Be willing to move numbers around a bit. You may find that while you cannot afford premiums with a deductible of $2000 but by upping that to $3500 it fits in your budget. Be willing to pay full price for prescriptions or higher co-pays. Cheap health insurance may mean you have to pay more than someone with a group plan but it is better than finding yourself ill or in an accident with no insurance.

Step 4

Settle for catastrophic cheap health insurance if you find you cannot afford anything else. While catastrophic is not going to help you if you get a cold or need a check up, it will keep you from the bankruptcy that many find themselves in who do not have any insurance.

Even cheap health insurance may seem expensive to you but before giving up you should look through your budget at what luxuries you can give up to get you and your family health protection.
