  4. Use the toaster oven or microwave over the stove oven.  The stove oven consumes more electricity than other two put together.
  5. Should you plan to use the oven, it would be better to cook several dishes all at once to save stove oven cooking time.
  6. Always use a cover whenever heating a pan of water.  This will give you a faster boiling time.
  7. When stewing meat, always use a pressure cooker rather than standard cooking.  A pressure cooker allows for faster tenderization and a more efficient use of energy.
  8. A convection oven is the modern way of cooking as this gives energy savings of about 20% over a convection oven, even with the fan on
  9. Make use of residual heat.  Turn off the stove a few minutes before the dish is finally cooked.  The hot water continues to cook food while you save energy and prevent overcooking.
  10. Always match the size of burner with the pot you are going to use.
  11. Cook more on a single occasion and save leftover portions in the fridge.  You can save more energy by reheating rather than cooking meals every day.
  12. Grill outdoors rather than using your stove grill or oven.  It’s more fun and you save your kitchen from the heat given off by grilling as well as the not so pleasant smell it brings.
