How to Restring an Electric Guitar

By | 2 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Do you want to Restring an Electric Guitar ? Electric guitars are quite popular among youngsters nowadays. But compared to acoustic guitars, the strings of electric guitars are to be changed more often. Although the process is quite simple, for a newbie, this may seem a little intimidating. It will take a few minutes to restring an electric guitar if you practise it a number of times.

Make sure you have following things ready before restringing.

1. New guitar strings. Steel strings are generally used for electric guitars.

2. A pair of wire cutters .

3. A guitar tuner and a string winder

First thing you have note is that don't try to remove all strings at the same time. You can remove the strings one by one. Use the string winder to loosen the strings. As a first step, loosen the low E string and cut it near the tuner and pull it out of the bridge. Now, select the low E string from the new strings. Pull it through the bridge, pointing the end through the nut bridge of the guitar, over the saddle .The new string should point into the hole in the tuning post. Repeat the same steps for all the six string till the high E string. Remove all extra strings, if any, using the wire cutter. Tighten the strings using the string winder.

Now you can start tuning the electric guitar either using a guitar tuner or by your ear. Tune the string in all pitches starting from low to high. You will have to tune it at least 5-6 times till the strings are settled.
