How to Set Up Rabbit Cages
Rabbits are among the most popular pets in the world and it is no secret why. They are cute and cuddly, and they return as much love as you give them. Taking care of a rabbit is relatively easier than looking after a cat or dog, but that doesn't mean they don't take some effort to keep healthy. Remember that common house rabbits can live for up to seven years, so you want to make every moment of their time in your care as happy as possible. Always make sure to show your rabbit that you love it, and there's no better way to do this than by keeping its cage well maintained.
There are many good rabbit cages on the market that will fit most standard needs. Try going to a few pet stores to find one that is the right size for your pet bunny. If you want to try something different, you can always make your own indoor rabbit cage, and the process isn't too hard. All it will take is some flexible mesh wiring that can be shaped and manipulated. Some people even use this wiring to join two commercial cages together to create a hub that gives their rabbit's maximum room. In general, outdoor hutches are larger and provide more space, so you can also go the route of buying one and just placing it inside. Whatever you choose, just remember that a rabbit cage should not be a place where you keep the rabbit confined. Rather, it should be more of an area of refuge that your rabbit can go to when it wants some privacy.
You always want to get the biggest rabbit cage that you can afford both in terms of cost and space. Remember that rabbit can grow quite big compared to their size as babies, so don't forget that your rabbit will no doubt get larger. If you have more than one rabbit, then you'll need to get an even bigger cage since pet rabbits need some space to themelseves. Once you've found a good cage, you'll want to line it with bedding or hay. You also want to have a food dish that can fit in the corner, and try to get something that won't tip over easily. Some people like to give their rabbits a water dish, but you can also choose to go with a bottle that attaches to the side of the cage.
It's always important to keep your rabbit cage nice and clean, and you should do this on a daily basis. Despite their size, rabbit can produce quite a bit of mess so you have to take that into account. Clean the cage well with water and vinegar to treat the smell. And at least once a week you should take it outside to give it a good washing with the garden hose. The more you clean the cage, the easier it will be, so make sure not to neglect this duty. With a well maintained cage, you will notice your rabbit will be much happier and healthier in the long run.
