How to Set Up a Playstation 3

Learning how to set up a Playstation 3 is the vital final step one must take before a whole new world of entertainment is opened for you. When my brother bought the Playstation 3 when it originally came out (at the $700 dollar price tag no less!) I immediately became jealous and just wanted one really bad. A few years later it dropped to around $200 dollars, so the time to purchase became imminent. Fortunately, modern video game consoles like the PS3 are extremely easy to set up; and if you are having any trouble and need help learning how to set up a Playstation 3: you have come to the right place.

The Playstation 3 is an excellent video game console that also functions as a blu ray player and DVD players, as well as an internet browser, a host for Netflix, and similar things. The PS3 is a very powerful console, perhaps the most powerful one on the market today; even bypassing Microsoft's Xbox 360. Read on to learn how to set up a Playstation 3:

Connect Your System to Your TV

You will need to determine whether or not you are using an HDMI cable, or just going with the standard colored cable (for standard definition viewing). This should be self-evident as you will need to purchase an HDMI cable. The ports for these plugs are easy to find both on your television and your PS3 console.

If you have not upgraded to an HDMI cable, I would highly suggest purchasing one as it will greatly increase the appeal of having a Playstation 3 video game console. In fact, when I played this console on a standard definition television; it honestly gave me a headache! The games are not created for standard definition television. Do not be fooled by anyone who tells you otherwise! Fortunately, a good HDMI cable can be purchased for a mere $20 dollars. Unlike the Xbox 360, you do not need to spend any more then this on getting your Playstation 3 set up and ready to use.

Plug in the Power Cord

The Playstation 3 video game console has a power cord that should be easy to notice. Simply plug one end into your PS3, and the other end into your outlet. It is recommended that you use a power surge protector, as you do not want a power surge to kill your Playstation 3 down the road.

Also, be sure to plug your Playstation 3 controller into the USB port in the front on the Playstation.

Press the Power Button on the Playstation 3 Console

Turning on the PS3 is a very simple task, simply hit the button found on the right side of the console. You can also remotely turn on the Playstation 3 by pressing the Playstation icon in the middle of all Sony brand Playstation 3 controllers. This latter feature is very cool if you are lying down and not in the mood to stand up and walk over to your video game console!

Create a User

When your Playstation 3 powers up for the first time, you will be prompted to create a new Playstation account. This is free and allows you to access the Playstation Store and online components of video games and movies. As a note: you cannot access any online functionality without a user account. It is also important to have an account so you can have access to Playstation "trophies" which you acquire by playing video games.

If multiple people will be using the Playstation 3 you purchased (or have yet to purchase!), then you can set up multiple accounts.
