How to Speed Up My PC

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

If you are looking to make your computer run fast, all you need is some basic and constant maintenance. Just like your car, your computer needs to be taken care of with performance tools to keep all kinds of odd issues at bay. Follow this simple guide to help you save some frustration, and quite possibly some money along the way.

Things You Will Need

Computer memory

Step 1

Defrag your computer at least once per week. When you defragment your computer hard drive, you are essentially reorganizing any files that have scattered all over your drive over time, making your PC slow as a result. Since this process may take quite some time to complete, it is best if you leave the disk defragmenter tool right before you go to bed. Restart your computer first thing in the morning and you should notice a slight difference in your computer's performance. You may also schedule your defragment tool to perform such task automatically at different times and dates through your main program's settings.

Step 2

Upgrade your computer with more RAM (Random Access Memory). Depending on how many applications you have installed and running in the background, you may need to get more memory for your computer, as your OS (Operating System) has a lot of resources that can easily take up this valuable memory. Furthermore, if your OS is newer, it usually takes up even more resources. Overall, the average computer should have no less than 1GB of RAM in order to function properly.

Step 3

Disable unneeded services and processes. Look into your list of active computer services and uninstall/disable anything that starts up with your computer. Such things you may not need include Windows Live Messenger or any other third party application. Many computer users make the mistake of (unwillingly) uninstalling many applications entirely from their computer, while leaving those active programs intact and launching with your OS simultaneously.

Keep in mind your issue may also be related to viruses, in which case, this article may help.
