Becoming a sports agent can be a very lucrative career. There are steps you will need to take to break into this highly competitive field however. This article will guide you on how to start a career as a sports agent.

Step 1

The first step to starting a career as a sports agent is to get a degree in sports management. Getting a degree in sports management will put you a step ahead of your competitors who will be applying for the same jobs as you are. If you have to go back to school to get this degree it is worth it if you are serious about one day having a career as a sports agent.

Step 2

The second step is to find an internship once you have your degree in sports management. You can find an internship by contacting sports management companies and inquiring about an internship. There is a good chance you may have to take an unpaid internship. If you are offered an unpaid internship take it, this is an extremely competitive field, and getting your foot in the door is the first step to eventually becoming a sports agent.

Step 3

The third step to becoming a sports agent is to start networking with athletes at work and in your free time. You will need to work very hard in your free time to network with athletes and make them want you to become their sports agent. Many sports agents will be networking with athletes during work hours, to separate yourself from the crowd you will need to work extra hard at networking and do it as much as possible in your free time as well.
