By Edited Oct 27, 2013 0 0

Gymnema Sylvestre is a natural herbal supplement that comes from a woody plant grown in South India. It is known as the "destroyer of sugar". The National Institute of Health (NIH) has scientific research that supports the ability of Gymnema Sylvestre to control blood sugar by decreasing the desire for sugar and reducing the absorption of sugar in the bloodstream. Gymnema Sylvestre is used to help with diabetes, insulin resistance and weight control. The supplement was recently introduced to the United States, but it has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for several thousand years.

Things You Will Need

Gymnema Sylvestre

Step 1

Purchase Gymnema Sylvestre. It is readily available at health food stores and online retailers like Amazon.com. It is sold in capsule and tablet form. It is also sold as a tea.

Step 2

Take the dosage of Gymnema Sylvestre recommended by the manufacturer of the product you are using. Since concentrations are different from one Gymnema product to another this will vary. In general the dosage is one 100 milligram capsule or tablet 3 times a day at meals. If using the tea, one cup of boiling water should be poured over 1 teaspoon of Gymnema Sylvestre tea leaves once a day. This should be allowed to steep for 10 minutes.

Step 3

Allow time for Gymnema Sylvestre to work. Gymnema Sylvestre will dull the taste buds for up to 3 hours so the taste of sugar is not desired. Gymnema Sylvestre taken over an extended period will also help regulate insulin, the full benefits to be seen within 6 months to a year.

Gymnema Sylvestre can provide many benefits. Be sure to consult your physician if you are diabetic or have other medical issues as it may effect medications you are taking.
