Step 1

Obtain your Nikon Coolpix 950 from a preferred vendor. Make sure you purchase any warranties that come with the camera. Whatever the warranty cost, they eventually page for themselves.

Step 2

Purchase the IR filter. Some good choices are the Harrison & Harrison 98B or the Hoya R72. Speak with a qualified sales representative about what filter will work best for your camera; keep in mind the type of work you want to do and the final quality you would like to achieve.

Step 3

Put your tripod together and set it up securely. Place the camera on the tripod and make sure it is secure. Do this first without adding the filter.

Step 4

Go to the "Menu" on your Nikon Coolpix 950 and choose the exposure time. Test out the different time lengths and choose the one that suits you best.

Step 5

Get your shot in focus without the filter. You must do it this way because the camera does not automatically focus through the IR filter.

Step 6

Now attach the IR filter and you are ready to take the picture. You can preview your picture and adjust it if necessary.

Step 7

When adjusting your pictures remember that darker pictures need a longer time to develop. The white balance corrects other color mistakes.

Step 8

Make sure you read the manual thoroughly and call the customer service representative if you have the slightest question. It is better to be safe, than sorry that you broke your expensive new fabulous Coolpix camera.

Step 9

Always put away your camera in its storage case when it is not in use.
