How to Transfer Pictures onto a Tablecloth

By | Dec 9, 2009 | 2 Comments | Rating: 1

Tablecloths come in a wide variety of colors and are designed to protect the finish of the table from heat and scratches. Although tablecloths can be purchased almost anywhere, it is more interesting to make your own. One technique that ensures you will have a unique tablecloth is to transfer pictures onto the cloth. The process for printing pictures onto a tablecloth is not difficult, although it does require a few special supplies from the craft store.

Things You Will Need

Cotton cloth

Scissors

Flat pan

Bubble Jet Set 2000

Gloves

Clothes hangers

Freezer paper

Iron

Printer

Washing machine

Laundry detergent

Step 1

Use scissors to cut the cotton fabric into rectangles that are slightly smaller than 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches. Cut one rectangle for each picture that you want to print onto the tablecloth.

Step 2

Place the cotton fabric into the pan and fill the pan 1/2 inch full with Bubble Jet Set 2000. It is fine to place all of the fabric in the plan at the same time as long as each piece is thoroughly saturated with the solution. Allow the fabric to soak in the solution for five minutes.

Step 3

Put on gloves and remove the fabric from the solution. Allow the fabric to air dry by hanging the cloths on clothes hangers.

Step 4

Use scissors to cut pieces of freezer paper in rectangles that measure 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches.

Step 5

Place one piece of freezer paper shiny side up on a flat surface. Lay one piece of the cotton fabric on top of the freezer paper and apply a hot iron to the top of the fabric. Move the iron over the fabric until it completely adheres to the freezer paper.

Step 6

Use the scissors to trim the edges of the paper so that the paper and fabric edges are even.

Step 7

Place the fabric into your printer's paper tray and print the desired photo off the computer.

Step 8

Peel the printer paper off the back of the fabric and allow the fabric to dry completely.

Step 9

Wash the fabric pieces in a washing machine using cold water and mild laundry detergent. This removes excess ink and prevents the ink from staining the tablecloth later.

Step 10

Use a sewing machine to sew the fabric photos onto the tablecloth by stitching around the perimeter of each piece of fabric.

This is something different that is for sure I have never hear of it being done this way. Sound like it could be worth a try. Or I suppose you could simply cut up old cloth pictures and restitch them onto materials like quilting
