How to Treat Bed Bug Bites: Finding Relief From Discomfort

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

Bed bug bites are itchy red bumps that usually have a linear pattern. These bites are rarely dangerous; thus, medical treatment is rarely necessary. The bite itself is painless but it can inflict discomfort upon the individual.

Bed bugs dwell in certain areas of your home, namely the bedroom. They can also live in cracks in pieces of furniture and on upholstered furniture. However, these bugs are usually seen in areas where people sleep in, such as the bed, mattresses, bed frames, and box springs. These bugs are very active at night, and they will feed on their victim's blood. They will bite the exposed areas of the skin while their victim is fast asleep. The common bite areas are the face, neck, hands, legs, and arms.

Remedies For Bed Bug Bites

Baking Soda: One of the best remedies against bed bug bite is baking soda and water. Mix the two until a paste-like consistency is reached. Here's how to do it:

  1. Wash and clean the bite area thoroughly using disinfectant soap and water
  2. Mix water and baking soda until they become a thick sticky paste.
  3. Apply the paste on the bite area.
  4. Leave the paste for a few minutes or until it is completely dry. Wait for another hour.
  5. Gently wash the paste off and pat the area dry.

Lemon Juice: This home remedy can also relieve itching. Using this remedy will also prevent the development of bacterial infection.

Aloe Plant: You can use the gel from an aloe plant to treat the bite. The gel contains anti-fungal and antibiotics; thus, it relieves itching and prevents infection. You only need to trim a tip and apply the exposed part to the bite area.

Peppermint Oil: You can fill the tub with water and add at least half a cup of peppermint oil. This will also relive you from the discomfort brought about by the bite.

Herbal Tea And White Clay: You can mix the two ingredients together to create a mud. Apply the mud to the bite since this will soothe the itching immediately.

Antibiotic Treatment And Antiseptic Lotion: You can apply these ointment and location to cure infection. This is best for severe bites where you experience extreme itching. It is also advisable to see a physician to get a prescription for any oral medications.

If you suffer from bed bug bites, it is vital to immediately inspect your bed since you may have an infestation at home. You can try to eliminate these bed bugs through natural methods; however, it is better to call in a professional exterminator.
