How to Treat a Spider Bite for your Pet

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

We all love our cats, dogs, and other pets—hoping they will be safe and live forever, but sometimes a spider bite can threaten the health of your pet. This article will show you how to treat a spider bite for your pet.

Before you treat the spider bite, try to identify the spider. Pull out your camera phone and snap a quick picture. You might also try to capture the spider for identification, but I don't recommend it. Identifying the spider with your veterinarian will help your pet receive the proper treatment quickly.

If your pet is bitten by a spider, they will have a reddish wound mark that is painful to the touch. You probably don't have to worry about the bite much unless it starts to worsen. If you begin to notice skin damage, or odd symptoms like nausea, monitor the wound carefully.

Treat the spider bite with an ice pack. This will reduce swelling and pain at the site of the wound. It will also decrease the rate at which tissue damage occurs in the skin. Make sure your pet is comfortable. It's also important to make sure (if possible) that your pet moves around as little as possible. Moving around can spread the venom of the spider bite if your pet was bitten by a venomous spider.

If the bite continues to worsen after about 12 hours, your pet has problem been bitten by a venomous spider. Take your pet to the veterinarian to receive more specific care depending on which type of spider has bitten your pet.
