How to Use Anise in Companion Planting

By | Jan 31, 2012 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Companion planting is an age old technique that is used to control pests, attract beneficial insects and to promote plant growth and health. Anise is easily grown for culinary use as well as in the garden as a companion plant. It tolerates partial to full sun. This herb thrives in rich, loamy soil that are moist.

Things You Will Need

Anise
Garden gloves
Garden spade
Garden hose

Plant Anise close to broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kohlrabi and cabbage to mask their smells from pests that target plants in the Brassica family. It also repels aphids.

When planted in the vegetable garden or flower bed, it increases the growth and production of vegetables and the amount of flowers.

Plant this herb throughout the garden and flower beds to attract beneficial insects such as predatory wasps and pollinating insects. Because it repels aphids, the herb makes a good companion plant in the flower garden.

Plant it amongst other herbs. It increases the production of essential oils and promotes the growth of the herbs. Anise is a good companion plant for coriander in particular.
