How to Use Facebook Places with iPhone, Android, or Other Media Devices

By Edited Jan 16, 2016 0 1

Facebook on iPhone
Facebook Places is a new feature that has been released for use in the United States and soon to be worldwide. This feature is a new Facebook application that can allow your friends to stay in touch with your real time location if you desire. It does require a mobile device to access. However, it doesn't require much else than you are probably already using if you access Facebook from your mobile already. Places works with devices such as iPhone, Android and other media devices.

To use this Facebook Places on your media device, such as the Android or Iphone, you have these options.

For iPhone use the latest edition of the Facebook application downloaded available from itunes: http://itunes.apple.com/app/facebook/id284882215

Or use the direct link with iPhone, Android or other mobile devices:

http://touch.facebook.com with a compatible operating system/browser. This would be one capable of supporting geolocation and HTML 5. It's pretty simple to use.

Say you are out shopping and you suddenly decide you want to eat. You would use your iPhone, or other device to log on to the Facebook application. Then you would click the "Places" and next the "Check In" button. Locations near you will then pop up. If the exact location is not listed, you would then search to find it or add it onto the list of places. Now select the place and your location will then appear in your friends on Facebook "News Feed". If any of your friends are in the same location, they will know and you can arrange a lunch. You can also search your friends to see where they are.

Facebook Places Safety

Gives a new meaning to cyber stalking? People do need to use commonsense when applying this feature. This could create a very dangerous situation for some you. There are different rules for minors, but it's important to not add people you don't know as friends. You should also be aware that if you are out with friends, or they know your location, they do have the ability to tag you as well. Facebook members do have a great deal of control about who can see their locations by going to "Account" and clicking on the "Privacy Settings". For more options, you can also click "Customize settings" beside the "Check In".

So, as this new feature Facebook Places has been rolled out, it's more possible to stay connected with friends. This could be a good thing or a bad depending on how you use it. Just remember to stay safe first. For those of you who are not in the United States, keep an eye out for this feature in your area soon.
