How to Use Geraniums and Petunias in Companion Planting
When using geraniums and petunias in companion planting, you are creating a chemical free organic gardening space. These two flowers provide a natural control when it comes to pests that often rampage through gardens resulting in destruction and loss of vegetables, herbs and other flowers. They can be used interchangeably in any type of gardens as these two flowers have essentially the same results with distracting many garden pests from their target.
Grow geraniums or petunias with any of the brassicas (broccoli, cabbage), cucurbits (cucumber, squash), tomatoes, asparagus, green peppers and corn. They deter pests such us cabbage worms, leaf hoppers, tomato horn worms, Mexican been beetle and asparagus beetles. These companion flowers will also benefit many other vegetables.
Plant them around all types of gardens to distract Japanese Beetles from destroying the plants. White geraniums are an especially good companion plant to have, they quickly draw Japanese Beetles to them. The beetles eat the flowers then die.
Both types of flowers also make especially good companions for roses because they act as a trap crop for aphids. Geraniums and petunias also work well as companions to many other flowers and herbs.

Place geraniums and petunias around grape vines. They are especially helpful when the grapes begin to mature.
These plants also assist in pest control for different types of berries grown in summer gardens, for example, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries.
If preferred, grow geraniums and petunias in planters. This will enable them to be moved around any garden areas as needed. They will also help repel pests from patio and seating areas, particularly when Japanese beetles are at their most active.
