Green tea can be a wonderful addition to any weight loss program. While teas in general have been around for thousands of years, it has only been recently that the world has begun to use green tea to lose weight.

About Green Tea
All teas are derived from the same type of plant. What causes it to be a different color is the way it is prepared. The process of making tea begins with picking the tea, fermenting the tea and then heating the tea to stop the fermentation process. The longer tea has been fermented, the more caffeine it acquires. Typically, green tea has the least amount of caffeine because it is not fermented very long. In addition to having a lower concentration of caffeine, there are numerous benefits of green tea that are derived as a result of the shorter fermentation process.

Health Benefits of Green Tea
Green tea contain something called Tannins and Catechins, which are produced by plants. Tannins aid in digestion and Catechins contain antioxidant properties that may prove to be more powerful than Vitamin C and E. After a strenuous workout, your body needs these antioxidants to help reduce the impact of free radicals. Additionally, green tea contains Flavonoids, which may aid your body in preventing infection.

How to Use Green Tea to Lose Weight
Drinking three glasses of green tea daily has been shown to increase your resting metabolic rate by up to 3%. If, for example, your bmr is 1,800, you could burn an extra 54 calories every day simply by drinking green tea. Over the course of a year, this equates to a reduction of almost 6 pounds of body fat.

Asian countries have known about the health benefits of green tea for thousands of years. Only now, are we starting to understand the benefits associated with a healthy, natural diet.
