How to Use Pumpkins and Gourds for Thanksgiving Centerpieces

One of the most important choices that you can make when it comes to decorating for the coming holidays is what Thanksgiving centerpiece to use. This can set the tone for the rest of your holiday season. While many people choose to ignore the tradition of dressing up the table, others decide to go all out. Why not go somewhere in between and use some pumpkin and gourds for your decorations.

Pumpkins and gourds have long been associated with the fall season and Thanksgiving. That is why it is a natural idea to use them in one of the Thanksgiving centerpiece ideas below. Many of these can be done a few days in advance or even at the last minute if you have the items lying around the house.

Number One: A Basket

Many people do not even attempt to make a Thanksgiving centerpiece because they feel that they are not crafty enough. Well this is the do it yourself if you fall into this category. The first thing that you need to do is to get a wicker basket. You want to make sure that you get a size that is not too big so that it does not take up too much room on the table.

You can get a collection of smaller pumpkins and gourds at your local garden shop. Place the items in your basket. This is all that you need to do to have a basic decoration that your guests will love. You can also add some other statues of turkeys or even leaves in your arrangement in the basket to make it even more festive.

Number Two: Leaves

For this Thanksgiving centerpiece you can either use leaves that you have collected from your yard or fake ones from your local craft store. Just make sure that if you use real ones from outside that you clean them off a bit before you use them. This decoration idea is much more free form and can be used in many different ways. The idea is that you scatter the pumpkins, gourds, and leaves through the center of your table. You can even choose to weave them in and around the place settings.

Number Three: Flowers

There are many great flowers that would work for a fall arrangement. This easy to do Thanksgiving centerpiece can be done with any of them. The first thing that you will need is a vase to put your flowers in. You will then want to arrange the pumpkins and gourds around the base of the vase. Think of them as an accessory to the vase and flowers. Finally put any fall flower arrangement in and you are all ready for dinner.
