How to Use Yarrow in Companion Planting and Compost
Yarrow is a perennial herb that has a number of uses around the home and garden. It is one of the few plants that performs well with most plants and has a star role in organic gardening as a companion plant. Grow this garden herb in full sun or in an area that receives light shade. This deep-rooting plant does not like damp soil, but tolerates periods of drought. It performs best in well-draining soil with a pH level between 6.0 and 6.5. Divide the plants every few years to prevent overcrowding.

Plant Yarrow near any plant to increase that plant's overall health and productivity.
As a companion plant, it will also enhance the production of essential oils in other herbs.
Yarrow also improves soil quality in areas it is planted in and can be used as a method of soil erosion prevention.
Plant it in the vegetable and flower gardens as a companion plant to attract beneficial insects. The flowers of this garden herb attract beneficial insects such as predatory wasps, ladybugs, damsel bugs and hover flies that devour pests. It will also attract butterflies to the garden.

Add Yarrow to compost as it speeds up the composting process. Yarrow also adds essential oils to the soil as it breaks down.
