Thus, before you clean silk, it is best that you try cleaning a small and inconspicuous spot of your silk clothes to see that your method of cleaning the silk has no adverse effect on the fabric.
If you wish to know how to hand wash silk, the following is one method to do so. First, take two quarts of very cold water and add a half cup of mild laundry detergent solution. Next, add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar to the mixture of cold water and detergent. As you dip the silk item up and down into the mixture, make sure that you don't soak the silk item. Once the silk item looks to have been cleaned up, it will then be time to rinse it in cold water. Dunk the silk item up and down until it is rinsed clear of the detergent water. You can let the silk item drip till it is just wet. Then you can take the silk item and roll it up into a towel and iron the silk item while it is still wet.
If you are worried about the silk item turning yellow, you can prevent any possible yellowing by putting half a cup of white vinegar into the rinse water. Again if you are worried about what may happen to the silk if you wash it, you may want to test the silk on an inconspicuous spot before dunking the entire silk item into water.
