How to do heel spur treatment with simple exercises
A heel spur is a growth on the heel bone that is often associated with a condition called plantar fasciitis. The plantar fascia is a band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot. Plantar fasciitis occurs when this tissue starts to pull away from the heel area, creating the bony protrusion known as a heel spur.
Heel spurs can be quite painful, and the pain can be especially intense in the morning right after getting out of bed, but fortunately there is a range of non-surgical treatments that can help to reduce or eliminate heel spurs. This article describes how you can do heel spur treatment with simple exercises. You should consult a podiatrist to find out if these exercises are right for you, but if they are, then you could experience heel pain relief without needing more expensive treatments.
Step 1
Do this exercise first thing in the morning before getting out of bed. Sit up, and extend your leg on which you have the heel spur over the edge of the bed. If you have heel spurs on both feet, repeat these steps for the other foot.
Step 2
Stretch your foot upwards, i.e., by stretching your toes towards your head as shown in the above picture. Keep your foot stretched for about 10 seconds by counting slowly to 10. Relax your foot and count to 10.
Step 3
Repeat the above step (i.e., stretching and relaxing) five times. Do not walk around barefoot after you get out of bed.
Step 4
Try to repeat these exercises once or twice during the day while you're seated at your desk.
Tips & Warnings
Heel spur treatment in the above way should significantly reduce heel pain relief. In addition, you may also consider wearing orthotics for plantar fasciitis - these can be inserted into your shoes and make walking more comfortable.
