How to download, (un)install and update apps from the Android Market

Your Android phone or tablet is a great device to play games on, stay up to date with news from all over the world, listen to music, find out the latest weather forecasts, plan a trip, communicate with your friends via social networks like Twitter and Facebook and much more. There are a lot of free and paid apps available in the Android Market, but how do you download these Android apps, install the apps on your phone and how do you keep the apps on your Android device up to date?

In this article, you will get an explanation how to download, install, uninstall and update apps from the Android Market.

Downloading and installing apps on your Android device
Downloading and installing apps from the Android market to your device is easy, as long as you follow the simple steps below:

  • Choose the Market shortcut on your home screen or from the menu
  • In the Android Market you can browse Apps, Games or search for a specific application
  • Pick an item you want to download and install and select that item
  • Read the description of the app, its author and the comments
  • If you wish to install the app, select the install- (free app) or Buy now-button (paid app)
  • If you select the Install-button, your download will start immediately. If you select the Buy now-button, you will have to sign in to your Google Checkout account
  • Choose purchase now and walk through the purchase screens.
  • Your download will start and the application will be installed on your Android device automatically

Uninstalling apps from your Android device
If you want to uninstall an application from your Android powered device, follow the steps below:

  • Choose the Market shortcut on your home screen or from the menu
  • Select Download from the Market Home Screen
  • Select from your Download-list the item you wish to uninstall
  • Choose the Uninstall button in the application description screen
  • Your app will be uninstalled automatically

By the way, after removing an application you purchased, you will be able to return to your Downloads at any time to reinstall that purchased application at no additional costs.

Updating apps on your Android device
You will receive an automatic notification when there is a new version of one of your apps available. You can also choose the Market shortcut on your home screen of from the menu, go to the Downloads section of the Android Market and check for new versions of your applications. Apps that have a new version available will show the message 'Update available'.
