Step 1

Quit smoking, or at least slow down. Bronchitus may not be directly caused by smoking but it can cause chronic bronchitis which makes it easier to get bronchitis. Smoking also makes bronchitis symptoms a lot worse.

Step 2

Get a water vaporizer. Water vaporizers can help moisten the air and make it easier to breathe. You can set these in your room during the night and unplug it during the day. This will help your lungs breathe more easily.

Step 3

Buy a cough medicine. You can buy a mild cough medicine to ease symptoms of coughing until you get better. If you are having trouble with sleep, you can get a nighttime cough medicine. Vitamin C and Vitamin A can also be helpful to cough symptoms.

Step 4

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Fruits like apples and oranges have plenty of vitamin C, E and D, which are good for bronchitis symptoms. Vitamin C, E and D all help with your immune system and energy levels. There are also plenty of antioxidants in the same fruits.

Step 5

Get some light exercise. Walking to the mailbox is a good idea when you're sick. You will need to get your heart rate slightly raised and it's always good to stretch your legs. Rest is good, but during the day you can build up your immune system with light exercise.

Step 6

Drink plenty of water and get plenty of rest. Rest and fluids are very important any time you're sick. When you have bronchitis, it's important to keep your immune system functioning well. Water and rest will help with that tremendously, and improve energy levels.

Step 7

Pay attention to drastic temperature changes. When you go in or out doors, you take a risk of getting sick, because of the drastic swings in temperature. This can cause you to get sick with bronchitis or cause existing bronchitis to get worse.
