Life after bankruptcy discharge can be very stressful. Not only does it give you a financial setback but also emotional disturbance and mental agony. In today's economic downturn, millions of people are on the verge of bankruptcy and thousands have even filed for bankruptcy. The road to financially recovery after a bankruptcy discharge can be very long and difficult.

If you are one of those people who could not avoid bankruptcy, you would be wondering about the next steps. You must be wondering what you should do to bring your financial status back to normal. When you find yourself in such a situation, first of all you should meet with your creditors and let them know about the crisis. There may be a few assets which you are allowed to keep which are exempt like furniture, personal belongings or even your car up to a certain value. All the non exempt assets will be liquidated. This will also include any savings such as Certificate of Deposits.

After filing for bankruptcy, you can be assured that you will not receive any kind of loan from any credit institution for at least 18 to 24 months. Loans after bankruptcy are very hard to come by whether they are car loans, personal loans or home loans. You will need to rebuild your credit history to a certain extent before you even think of applying for any kind of non secured loan.

In order to rebuild your credit history, you will need to improve your credit score. This credit score is an indication of your credit history and financial credibility. It is also known as FICO score. Once you declare bankruptcy, your credit score goes very low. There are a few things which you can do which would help you improve your credit score. Please note that nothing happens immediately but you will surely see the improvement in due course of time.

If possible, get a secured loan or a secured credit card. Getting a secured credit loan is the easiest way to rebuild your credit history. Anyone including a bankrupt person can get this loan due to the collateral. If you repay this loan back in timely manner, the credit score will improve automatically. Another good way is to get a secured credit card. In this type of credit card, you don't take credit from the bank. Instead, you deposit some money with the bank and use that money to pay through the credit card. It is another way to use a debit card and it is also a good way to improve your credit history.

Apart from these, there are other basic things which you should take care like paying your utility bills on time, rearrange your finances, keep track of your credit reports etc. All these things will help you rebuild your credit history after bankruptcy. Life after bankruptcy discharge is very difficult and it would take a lot of grit and determination to bring your life back on track.
