How to increase virtual memory in Windows XP

Virtual memory is used to store data when your RAM gets full. Virtual memory stand for simulated RAM. Increasing the virtual memory in Windows XP enhances the system performance. You may get messages in Windows XP when you are running out of virtual memory. Here are a few tips to increase virtual memoryin XP.

Things You Will Need

Computer,Hard disk,RAM

Step 1 Click Start and select Control panel from start menu.
Step 2 In control panel, select Performance and maintenance and click on system. This will take you to advanced TAB where you have to click on settingS under performance.
Step 3 Again, you have to select change Virtual memory under advanced tab.
Step 4 This will display  a number of drives for you.  Select the drive where your operating system is installed.  Most of the times, it will be drive C.
Step 5 Click the custom size under paging file size. Here you can increase the virtual memory for Windows XP. Enter the amount of virtual memory.  Set initial and maximum values as same. For better performance, give the value of virtual memory to be 1.5 times the size of physical RAM.
Step 6 Click on set and press OK. Restart your computer after doing this. This will allow you to increase the virtual memory in Windows XP.
