Most people would like to increase their confidence, but many don’t know how to do it. Here are a few ways that I have found to increase confidence:

Focus on Your Achievements

What you focus on increases. It can be useful to reflect on how you could do something better at times, but if you are always thinking about what has gone wrong it will start to erode your confidence. Make a concerted effort to focus on your achievements, however small. You could create a new habit of writing down three achievements every day before you go to sleep. This puts you into a positive frame of mind for the next day and also helps you to see yourself in a more positive light.

Change Your Self Talk

Self talk is powerful. If this is a new idea to you, start by noticing and recording some of your thoughts. A lot of the time, we speak to ourselves in a way we wouldn’t even speak to our worst enemy! Once you catch yourself using negative self talk, see if you can find a way to deal with things in a gentler manner. Affirmations are a good way to start replacing negative self talk with more positive thought patterns.                                                                               



Meditation helps to reduce stress and to naturally increase self confidence. Meditation doesn’t need to be difficult. Just sit quietly, either with your eyes open or closed and concentrate on your breath. Allow your thoughts to pass through your mind without resisting them. Meditation has been proven to lower anxiety and it can help you to deal with life in a calm manner.

Widen Your Comfort Zone

Sometimes, stepping outside your comfort zone helps to increase your confidence and see yourself in a different light. As Albert Einstein once said:

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

Have a look and see if trying something new could give you the boost you are looking for. Talking to someone new or trying a new hobby can open you up to new ways of looking at yourself and others.

Dress for Success

Taking care of your physical appearance can help to increase your self esteem and feel happier. It also helps you to show the world that you value yourself and take yourself seriously.

Hire a Coach or Mentor

A coach or mentor can help you to see things about you and your life that may be hidden from view. They are trained to ask the right questions and to help you move forward and stay motivated. Self defeating or self sabotage like patterns can erode self confidence and bring you down but we are not always aware that we are doing them. By working with a coach or mentor you can start to change such patterns and help yourself to move forward with your life.
