In these modern times we have gotten so used to technology that most if not all cannot go about their normal day without it. Cell phones, Internet, computers and IPods all seem to be everywhere now. Hell, you won’t be able to find a payphone or at least a working one. So much technology has infiltrated our lives that it has become a part of it. People will not leave their house without their gadgets on them I guess it makes them feel comfortable.
Personally I’m not much of a tech person even though I work in the tech industry I’m not one to bombard myself with the latest gadgets that come out.
Simplifying your life is pretty simple at least to me anyway. When I want to get off the grid I just turn my phone and computer off. Even the TV gets turned off when I want to get out of the constant bombardment of crappy shows, crappy apps etc. All you have to do is turn it off and life does not end as a matter of fact you become more aware.
When I stroll down the street on a nice sunny day I could see the people because my head is up soaking up that vitamin C. The rest of the people around me are glued to their phones trying to entertain themselves because their lives are so boring.
Go for a walk and say hello to people on the street. Listen to soft music to clear your mind.
I remember a few years ago when life was simpler. Where we did not have cell phones and actually went outside and played sports with friends. Going to the park or beach or even just hanging out doing nothing. We did not need all of these gadgets to make our lives meaningful. We actually made it meaningful.
Okay, you want to simplify so here is a list:
- Turn off or unplug your home phone or cellphone
- Turn off your television
- Shut off your MP3
- Don’t buy crap you don’t need
- Stop ordering out and cook for yourself
- Walk don’t drive to the store
- Play sports with people you like
- Lay off the junk food
- Turn off your radio
- Go hiking and soak in some nature
- Start reading books
It does not take much to simplify your life just the motivation to do it. At first you will feel anxious because of the silence but after a while you will get used to it. All you will need is to let go
