How to make Mustache Favors

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

If you are looking for an easy DIY project for a birthday party, wedding, or any celebration, having a mustache on a stick is a good way to promote a fun environment and photo opportunities. They are casual and will not cause invited children to bounce around on sugar. Even those who do not fancy themselves crafty will be able to make more than enough mustaches for a great celebration.

Things You Will Need

Craft dowels
Craft felt (preferably in brown or black, but spice it up with color if you want)
Hot glue gun
Glue sticks for hot glue gun
Scissors
Mustache ideas or templates
(optional) pencil

Step 1

colorful felt
Gather your felt, scissors, and pre-cut templates. Place a template for your first mustache on the felt. At this point, you can either trace the mustache onto the felt or simply hold and cut. If this is your first time, I would suggest tracing. Cut out the entire mustache.

Step 2

dowel and mustache
After you have your felt mustache, warm up the hot glue gun and grab one craft dowel. You can use any size, just make sure it doesn't overwhelm the size of the mustache. Place the dowel on the right side of the mustache (if it's facing the table). This way, if someone holds it with their right hand, it goes over their mouth without interruption. With the hot glue gun, glue the craft dowel into place and let it dry for several minutes.

*This picture features it on the left. Be sure to make some of both for the left and right handed people at your celebration!

Step 3

finished mustaches
Continue to make different, fun mustaches for everyone at your celebration! These can be from the templates or from your imagination (How about Mario?). If you want to add a little themed touch, tie tiny ribbons around them for your wedding colors or school colors.

For more information and examples, check out websites like Lisa Welge and the DIY section of Wedding Bee. If you would rather purchase pre-made mustaches on sticks, they have been spotted on Etsy along with monocles, eyeglasses, and other fun party favors.

Tips & Warnings

*If you want a sturdier mustache, try cutting two of the same mustache and gluing them back to back around the craft dowel.
*For a fun graduation party, try making the mustaches your school colors.
*Make sure no one is allergic to felt.
